Freedom Induction Cooktop | Thermador

Kitchen appliances that offer efficiency, function and personalization tend to catch my eye and I was inspired by a couple of offerings while attending the National Kitchen & Bath Association KBIS 2018 recently.

Freedom Induction Cooktop | Thermador

Speaking of kitchen appliance trends that are not only listening and responding to consumer desires and wish lists to personalize their homes to suit their lifestyles, Thermador has taken this concept seriously with the introduction of its new Freedom Induction Cooktop. The “intuitive features allow for greater control and ease of use,” according to Thermador and is marketed as “the largest fully usable cooking surface on the market within its class.”

Available in 30″ and 36″ I marvel at how this intuitive cooktop has the capability to “automatically recognize the size, shape, and position of cookware on the surface! So many key features enhance this product I encourage you to take a look for yourself.

Drawer Storage Solutions | CleverStorage

Kitchen storage is another huge trend that is shaping kitchen design in a powerful way. From pantries to wall, corner and base cabinets technology is driving innovation storage solutions that are lifestyle friendly.

Kesseböhmer (CleverStorage), a world leader in creating exceptional kitchen storage solutions also inspired and impressed me with its product designs that bring efficiency and enhanced function to the kitchen space. Improved accessibility, organization while transforming wasted space into practical usable space was exciting to see.

iMove Pull-Down System | CleverStorage | Kessebohmer

What I really loved was Kesseböhmer’s introduction of the iMove intelligent pull-down system for wall cabinets. This system makes those hard to reach top shelf wall cabinets accessible as we’re seeing taller built-in cabinet units become a stable trend in kitchen design.

Features include the choice of one or two shelf option, soft open and close mechanisms, an option to fit cabinets widths from 21″ to 36″ and four finishes to choose from. This high quality and innovative line of storage solutions will bring order to your kitchen and efficiency to your life!

Luxury Kitchen in Purple | Denise McGara | House Beautiful

Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017 Greenery was introduced with great delight on my part with its fresh and hope-filled hue that raced around the world with a frenzy from interior design to fashion and merchandising applications. Now, according to Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, the “Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” And the message of Ultra-Violet, Pantone Color of the Year 2018 is what’s needed today.

Pantone Ultra Viiolet, 18-3838

Words like “inventiveness,” “imagination,” and “creative inspiration” speak the language of Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet. This blue-based purple inspires exploring new technologies, artistic expression and spiritual reflection according to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Purple Dining Room | Gracie Wallpaper | Mary McGee

But you may be asking at this point how should you incorporate this Ultra Violet into your decorating plan? By using the same basic design fundamentals that ensure a great outcome. I love Nancy Fire, creative director of HGTV Home, response to questions of applying the color purple to interior design: “Ultra Violet works well as an accent pillow, wallpaper geometric combined with grey, and of course, a regal color that plays well with grey, loden green and many neutrals.” In other words, pay close attention to scale, balance, pattern and texture within the space you are designing.

So, for those who appreciate visuals I’m including a variety of applications that hopefully will inspire you to incorporate this regal color into your interior design. This color is perfect for the adventurous and will add a touch of royalty to your home!

Kitchen Built-In Storage Cleaner lines with less countertop clutter are driving the trend for built-in cabinet storage and organizers according to the U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study. Kitchen cabinet manufacturers and are answering the call with personalized drawer and cabinet systems that can be specified to meet your every need. I love this trend.

Kitchen Countertops Surpassing granite, engineered quartz is now the most popular material for countertops according homeowners surveyed who recently planned or completed a kitchen renovation project according to Houzz. Upgrading countertops is the most common update in kitchen renovations.

Kitchen Technology Electronic integration is no stranger to modern kitchen appliances with high-tech features. Ever evolving smart features force us to investigate the best combination that complement our season of life while taking into account the efficiencies that enhance our in-home experience.

Kitchen Floor Hardwood is still the most popular flooring material with engineered wood and laminate growing in popularity.

Kitchen Cabinet We see them everywhere because their transitional style is so appealing; the Shaker style cabinetry with its recessed center panel offers a clean, crisp look that simply works. kitchen trends 2018, kitchen sink trends
Farm Sink with Apron | Kohler

Kitchen Fixture and Facet Easy to clean deep sinks with pull down kitchen faucets with high arcs are still number one in demand according to Kitchen and Bath Design News. Hands-free and motion sensor faucets are also becoming a more practical upgrade for those concerned about maintaining a germ-free kitchen. For workstations or task zones in the kitchen a second sink is also a strong trend. Speaking of kitchen sinks, the top styles are under-mount sinks (92%), single bowl (81%) and stainless steel as the most popular sink material (84%).

Kitchen Lighting Although under-cabinet lighting has been a popular trend for years, a growing interest for lighting inside the cabinetry to improve visibility and access for those not-to-often used appliances and serving pieces will continue to rise in popularity.

Larger kitchens offering multiple task, work and entertainment zones are here to stay and technology will continue to improve its offerings for the most popular room in the house!

Color of the Year 2019 | Cavern Clay | Sherwin Williams

Cavern Clay (SW7701), Sherwin Williams Color of the Year 2019 reminds me of colors hues rooted in the 70’s and 80’s with its warm, earthy tones. This terracotta color was birthed from our “elemental roots” and is a “nod to mid-century modern style, but with a soul of the American Southwest, which together creates the desert modern aesthetic,” according to Sherwin Williams.

As for future forecasting, Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin Williams predicts that “in the coming year, we will embrace our pioneering spirits and artisan ingenuity.” She goes on to say that “Cavern Clay embodies renewal, simplicity and free-spirited, bohemian flair.”

But what about the application and transitioning Cavern Clay into your home? It has been suggested that this warm and earthy hue is an ideal color for “flattering and design-forward aesthetics” according to Sue Wadden. It can be used as a backdrop accent in a dining room or kitchen when complemented with other design elements.

Cavern Clay can also be paired with other neutrals such as warm grays or deep browns as suggested by Sherwin Williams.

I can’t wait to see how Cavern Clay makes it way into 2019 and beyond, more importantly the role it will play in our homes and commercial establishments around the world. I would love to hear your take on this warm terracotta hue and its impact in your design-forward color plan!
